Good Evening!! So I thought I would make my first blog post about cloth pads – which happens to be not only a passion of mine, but also a product I sell in my store (www.facebook.com/krystaskloth OR www.etsy.com/shop/krystaskloth )
Just a heads up that this blog will be filled with TMI (too much information) on the female body as well as menstruation. So if you do not want to read about that – STOP right now!!!
Before you write off this blog about cloth pads, hear me out. At first, I initially had the same reaction: “EW GROSS – I would never do that!!!!” UNTIL I did some more research and eventually tried one pad on my own.
Just a little bit of back history on me and my decision to choose cloth pads over disposable pads. Before I had 2 kids, I was a tampon lover & pad hater… Then I had 2 kids and everything changed. Tampons would not fit anymore (no matter what size I used) without falling out – so I was constantly “pushing” the tampon up. So then I realized that I had to go with disposable pads – as it was my only option at the time. As time went on, I started to realize that every month – on my period – I started getting yeast infections. It came to the point where it was normal to say: “Oh I’m starting to get a yeast infection” every time. No matter how many times I changed my pad in a day – it was guaranteed that I was going to get one – I could bet on it. That’s when I sat down and thought to myself – why wouldn’t I make a cloth pad as I have a tonne of fabric in my sewing room that I can use. So I spent countless hours researching cloth menstrual pads on the internet, found a pattern that I liked and then sewed one up. Then I anxiously awaited good ole Aunt Flo to rear her ugly head.
When it was time to use the pad – I am not going to lie, I was nervous and anxious. What happens if I leak? What happens if a yeast infection still comes even after switching to a more breathable material? Let’s just say, by the end of the day, I had sewn up almost half of my stash of cloth pads – that how WELL my trial went with cloth pads J
I could not be happier with my trial results so I decided to put my pads out there as testers and see if anyone else would be interested… Well let me tell you of the large numbers of groups on Facebook pertaining to cloth menstrual pads that I never knew existed!!!
Now a year and a half later, I am sending out packages daily to women around the world that have realized the same idea that I have!!! No more yeast infections!! No more feelings of wearing a huge diaper!!! No more awful smells coming from downstairs because our lady parts can breathe!!!!!
Now that I have got you thinking about cloth pads – let me give you a lowdown of my wash routine – because honestly it is nothing out of the normal or difficult to do!!! I wash once a month, at the end of every cycle. When I change my pad throughout my cycle, I rinse it under cold water – ring out the pad and throw it in a reusable wet bag (also made in my store) that is hanging on the toilet paper roll. Then on wash day, I toss all pads and wet bag into the washer and wash on a small load, with ¼ of laundry soap and about a ¼ cup of Bio Life oxygen bleach (Or nature clean oxygen bleach). Usually I will toss them all in the dryer on medium heat, OR if I am not in a rush, I will hang them to air dry. THAT’S IT!!!!!! If you are out and about and need to change your pad, I make reusable pad wrappers. When you change your pad you just fold it up and put it in the wrapper, snap it closed and toss it in your purse until you get home.
Pretty EASY HUH???
So what are you waiting for??? Google cloth pads now and sees what you are missing!!! I will say that I have a sale with my pads – If you purchase a minimum of 3 pads, you receive 15% off your total before shipping. Now that is a good deal!!! I know that I love my cloth menstrual pads – as they come in many prints and colors that make me smile. And now I am happy to say that I actually look forward to Aunt Flo making a visit so I can wear my pads again!!
